1982 Red and Blue on White base


This plate was issued to all motorists at the end of 1981 to replace all blue on orange 1976 plates. There were 7 different die styles of this plate from 3 different manufacturers. The second and seventh styles are nearly identical, except for an embossed flange on the seventh style plate. These plates were issued through June 1992, and remain valid, though they are fairly rare on the road today.



First Style: AAA-001 to AKC-999; Waldale Manufacturing, Nova Scotia dies

Second Style: AKD-001 to AKO-999; Neal Manufacturing, Newfoundland dies

Third Style: AKP 001 to AKV 400; Acme Signalisation, Quebec dies, no dash

Fourth Style: AKV-401 to ALB-500; Acme Signalisation, Quebec dies, with dash

Return to second Style: ALB-001 to AMB-999; Neal Manufacturing, Newfoundland dies

Fifth Style: AMC-001 to ANZ-999; Waldale Manufacturing, Nova Scotia dies

Sixth Style: AOA-001 to APC-999; Waldale Manufacturing, Nova Scotia Bluenose dies

Seventh Style: APD-001 to ASZ-999; Neal Manufacturing, Newfoundland dies



1993 Viking Ship Base


This base was issued to new registrants starting in July 1993. These plates were issued in pairs up until the mid AX- series, then singly after.They were issued through September 2001. There were 6 different styles of this base, from 3 different manufacturers.


First Style: ATA 001 to AWF 999; Waldale Manufacturing, Nova Scotia bluenose dies

Second Style: AWG 001 to AZF 999; HiSigns Manufacturing, Alberta dies

Third Style: AZG 001 to AZZ 999; Waldale Manufacturing, New Brunswick dies

Fourth Style: HBD 001 to HBN 999; Astrographics Industries, British Columbia dies

Fifth Style: HBO-001 to HCM 999; Waldale Manufacturing, Manitoba dies

Sixth Style: HCN 001 to HDZ 999; HiSigns Manufacturing, Alberta dies

1996 Cabot Base


This base was issued from September 1996 to September 1997 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of John Cabot's landing at Bonavista on June 24, 1497. There were 2 variations of this base made by Astrographics using BC dies. Both styles show up randomly through the base.Serials go from HAB 001 to HBC 999.





2001 Newfoundland Flag Base


This base was issued starting in October 2001. There were 4 different styles of this base base from 3 different manufacturers. These plates were issued through August 2007. The third style was issued in an odd order due to the St. John's metro area running out of plates in mid 2003. The HJH to HJS series was issued first,in reverse order (HJS being first), then HHA to HJG, then HJT on.


First Style: HER 001 to HFO 999; Waldale Manufacturing, Manitoba dies

Second Style: HFP 001 to HGZ 999; Astrographics Manufacturing, BC dies

Third Style: HHA 001 to HLL 999; Irwin Hodson Manufacturing, Haiti dies

Fourth style: HLM 001 to HMT 999; Waldale Manufacturing , Manitoba dies



2007 Pitcher Plant Base


In August 2007, the province came out with a new provincial logo, also called a "Wordmark", featuring the name stylized in blue with a graphic of a Pitcher Plant, the provincial flower. Numbering started at HMV 001, and has moved into the HOx series in early 2008.
